My name is Brian Gubbin, I have been Chairman of The League of Friends of Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre, Haywards Heath since 1994.
HURSTWOOD PARK moved to Haywards Heath in 1941 when it was evacuated during the Second World War from the National Hospital of Neurology, Queens Square, London. It has become one of the Leading Centres of Brain Treatment in the country, and now is the only operating Hospital in South East England, the nearest being The General Hospital, Southampton, there is not another due East of Haywards Heath.
When I took over as Chairman, I promised the Committee that I would take this wonderful Centre both forward and upward, this I am sure has been achieved, with a lot of hard work, wonderful support from Patients, their Relatives and Friends.
The SURGEONS have benefited over the last few years with some amazing State of the Art equipment. The NURSES have received what they want via "Matron's Wish List" which is submitted to every Committee Meeting. The PATIENTS have benefited with many comforts, such as Beds & Pillows, Blood Pressure Monitors, Lockers to keep their personal belongings and the Relatives Rest Room has been totally updated with new flooring and furniture, for them to relax (if this is possible) whilst waiting for news of their loved ones.
The Gardens have been such a great success, this was the brain child of my Wife, Sue who has been such a great help to me over these past years. All of the above has been Sponsored by the League of Friends, by kind and generous public Donations.
There are now 6 Neurosurgeons and 4 Neurologists, on call at Hurstwood Park, as the centre not only deals Brain Tumours, Aneurysms, Strokes and of course Injuries from Road Traffic Accidents, Sporting accidents such as Jockey/Horse Riders, Rugby players, but also illnesses such as Multiple Sclerosis, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's, Motor Neurone Disease and all other problems relating to the brain.
Information can been obtained view our Website, Hurstwood Park League of Friends or e-mail me as above.
Just remember 'I'm only a phone call away"
"Brian Gubbin [right], the Chairman of Hurstwood Park’s League of Friends, has been awarded a prestigious Order of Mercy by The League of Mercy Foundation for his voluntary work. Brian is one of only 29 volunteers from across the UK singled out by the Foundation for this special recognition.
"During his 17 years as Chairman he has helped raise over two million pounds for new neurosciences equipment and improvements and often spends time comforting the relatives of intensive care patients in the family room he helped to create." (Comment from our then Chief Executive, Duncan Selbie. June 2011).
